You might want to watch this first..

$12 cable vs $260 monster HDMI cable..

mms://a1777.v87520.c8752.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/1777/8752/1203552418000/origin.media.cbc.ca/windows/marketplace/packing_the_deal.wmv

They could see no difference in picture performance, from viewing tests and bench testing.  Obviously the more expensive cable has better build quality, but that's all your extra $$$ are buying you...

Also bear in mind, these cables are carying digital signals.  Interconnects carrying analogue signals are a different thing, as signal losses and noise susceptabilty are much more of an issue with analog connections.

Even if you are buying analogue cables, it's food for thought...

The HD DVD Promotion Group's new guide to math:
BR sales > HD DVD sales -> HD DVD winning
BR studios > HD DVD studios -> HD DVD winning
WB BR titles sold > WB HD DVD titles sold -> WB HD DVD exclusive
BR support worldwide > HD DVD support worldwide -> HD DVD winning
BR CE supporters > HD DVD CE supports -> HD DVD winning
50 GB = 30 GB
48 Mbps = 36 Mbps

This does not surprise me.

As you say, digital signals are in any case more robust to any "lossy" issues.

Referring back to analog all the expensive cables that are sold for various "Hi Fi" or "Audiophile" equipment, almost all of them are a total con.

No they're not. They make the people who buy them feel all smug and warm inside, like the people taking their placebo Prozac, or those people with picnic table sized spoilers on their bootlids.
