Spare parts supply when units are out of warranty

Does any know the answer to this question ?
Are manufacturers required to provide/sell the sparepart service even when units are out of the warranty?
My recorder is just out of warranty and I am told by LiteOn it cant  be repaired because they have no spare parts anymore
HELP !

I have heard about a EU Directive that spare parts need to be available for a certain amount of years after the manufturer brings the product on the market, but can not find anything about this .

No they don't. Once your two years is up, it's up.

What needs replacing? You can try a drive change yourself. Just follow the guides in Hackers' Corner (and make sure you buy a drive with no higher speed than 16x)

These days though, you can almost everything that we used to love our old Liteons for on your PC. Things have moved on a little.
